Choosing the right size surfboard is the single biggest factor in how many waves you catch, how quickly you progress, and how much fun you have in the water.

Whether you’re buying your very first foamie, picking out a board for your child, or looking for a durable cruiser for summer beach breaks, this guide will help you select the exact right Rock-It soft top board for your weight and experience level.

The Golden Rule: Volume = Flotation = Wave Count

In surfing, volume (measured in liters, or L) determines how well a board floats you in the water.

• More Volume: Easier paddling, faster wave catching, maximum stability, and forgiving pop-ups. Ideal for beginners, kids, and smaller or weaker waves.
• Less Volume: Easier to turn, duck dive, and maneuver, but requires better paddling technique and cleaner pop-ups. Ideal for intermediate/advanced surfers or steeper waves.

Rule of Thumb: When in doubt, go bigger. Extra volume never hurt a beginner, but too little volume makes learning to surf frustrating.

Our boards are made to last, with up to four marine wooden stringers nano-coated so they don’t absorb water, a proprietary EPS foam, and a UV-resistant soft top material with unique texture. The structural strength allows for performance and durability, while at the same time having a soft and safe board that won’t hurt you or others in the water

Our 4'10" Chub is a high performance standing wave or shorebreak board. Our 6' Albert, 6' Baby Jesús, 7' Shortbus all come with removable fin box style fins. If you'd like to upgrade for a higher performance fin, FCS 1 fins will fit. Our 10' Facerider has a concave front nose and a big single fin that can be upgraded with aftermarket fins. In short...we have options that shred!

SharkGuard is a patented technology in which we incorporate multiple rare-earth magnets into the bodyboard and/or surfboard which project a magnetic field down into the water around the board. Sharks have a unique electrosensory organ system that is sensitive to magnetic fields.

The purpose of projecting a strong magnetic field down into the water is that it overwhelms this electrosensory system and is a distressing and uncomfortable sensation for the shark, which in many cases drives the shark away.

What’s up with the punk zebra stripe motif on the bottom? In 2013 University of Western Australia neurobiologist Nathan Hart & entrepreneur Hamish Jolly conducted research that indicated a zebra striped pattern was a deterrence to sharks & presented their results in a TED Talk. The patterns disperse the shark’s ability to identify the item, and mimic non-food source items in their environment. Of course there are no guarantees, but if there is an indication something could be safer, why not do it? The punk zebra motif is now the standard slick underside on all Rock-It models.
